TSAVO
WEST NATIONAL PARK
Well
known for the notorious”man eater of Tsavo” In 1948
Tsavo was gazzeted as Kenya’s second National park.
The
Tsavo Park has only two permanent rivers, Tsavo River that begins
its life on Kilimanjaro and is greatly supplemented by huge Underground
River flowing from Mzima springs and Athi River in Tsavo East
which begins near Nairobi.
Mzima
springs is the star attraction’ A pool of Natural spring
water with underwater viewing hides for observing hippos, Elephants
soaking half immersed in the water and Crocodiles basking on the
bank or through the water.
Each
year from September to November Ngulia has become the base of
unique phenomenon. Attracted by Ngulia lodge, Thousands of parlearctic
migrant birds descend through the mist which is prevalent at this
time to be netted, ringed then released.
These
provide vital information on the migratory routes and habitats
of many species of Northern hemisphere.
