MAKUMI
NATIONAL PARK
Rarely
visited and relatively small with 3,230 sq. km, the park lies
300 km west of Dar-es-Salaam, making it the closest part to the
capital.
Though
the park is small, there is a border with Selous game reserve
allowing movement of animals and therefore Makumi benefits from
the highest game density of entire conservation area.
Makumi
part is occupied mostly by Miombo woodland with gently rolling
hills and there are several viewpoints from which the visitor
can view the entire park.
There
are large resident populations of giraffe, elephant close to water
holes and a rich variety of bird species. Other animals include
wild dogs, pythons, leopard, lion, cheetah, impala, hartebeest,
wildebeest, eland and other antelopes.
